Dear Parents,
It was been so
wonderful speaking with all of you; getting to know you better and gaining a
little more insight as to what your firstie is like at home. Thank you for all
that you do at home to help reinforce what we are learning at school…I am
seeing so much learning and improving happening in ALL of the firsties...yahoo!
The “lanterns” are
coming home today and the firsties love them!
We put the tealights in them today and I turned off the
lights……”OOOOOOOO” is what I heard….LOL!
I snapped a few pictures, to show you how it looked with all of them
complete. Such fun!
Today we learned
about another Unthinkable….his name is Topic Twister Meister. His job is to try to get us to make the
conversation about OURSELVES and talk about something that doesn’t have anything
to do with the topic that is being discussed, whether that is in small group or
in a whole group setting. This is
something that is difficult for some first graders! But we will work on it in class and using the
SuperFlex language at home, helps too.
Just to recap on the Unthinkables that we have learned about so far;
Rock Brain gets us stuck on one idea only and doesn’t allow for any other kind
of ideas, Glass Man tries to get us to have BIG reactions to small problems
(and we have talked about what is the difference between a BIG problem and a
small problem), and now we know about Topic Twister. We still have a few more to learn about but I
will make you aware when they are introduced.
Just a reminder
that next Friday is our Veteran’s Day service and parents are welcome to come
and honor our vets as well. The service
begins at 8:15 and will be held in the gym.
The firsties will be singing along with other classes preparing specials
poems and songs in honor of the vets.
Next Friday is also a half day with dismissal at 11:30.
Did your firstie
tell you?! We WON the All For Books challenge!
Yippie! So we (I mean, me) got to pick out a book for our
classroom! This is the third year in a
row that 1st grade has won this, but who is counting, really? ;)
If you haven’t had
a chance to check out the “emotional pumpkins” in the hallway above our
lockers, here are a few pictures! Ask
your kiddo which one belongs to them!
Have a very
blessed three-day weekend!
Miss Gallagher
