Dear Parents,
Happy Wednesday! Hopefully you received my Fast Direct message this morning…! We are ON for the field trip next Thursday (the 22nd) to the Chippewa Nature Center.  We will be attending the program that talks about maple syrup, maple trees, and we will even get to practice tapping a tree for the sap!  We will be leaving around 12:00 (noon) and the program is about an hour and a half.  The cost is $2.75.  Please return the permission slip and money in a marked envelope by this Friday (and please indicate if you can drive and how many you can take).  Thank you! If you aren’t able to drive, I totally understand, especially since this is SO last minute…but don’t forget to send in your firstie’s car seat so that they can be driven to and from the Chippewa Nature Center, LEGALLY.

Did you get the Reading Record on Monday?  Something that the whole school is going to do for National Reading Month is keep track of how many minutes are read each night.  The goal for first grade is still the same; 20 minutes, 5 times a week.  Please have your firstie color the amount of minutes that they color each night and it will NEED to be turned in each week on Monday morning (no exceptions).  Each student will then get a new Reading Record for the next week. We will do this for the three remaining weeks that we have in March. Our goal for the whole school is to read 55, 550 minutes….!  WOW!  That’s a lot!  But I think that we can do it!  If we meet the goal, Mrs. Klauer will be donning a costume, two separate days.  I know what the costumes are and it should be entertaining….she is such a good sport!

We are continuing with our Secret Readers….thank you to those who have been able to do this!  We are enjoying the books that you are sharing with us.
Mrs. Shepherd read us one of her favorites from when she was little "Tikki Tikki Tembo"

Our “pirate patches” have been fun!  I’ve been having them speak in a “pirate” voice, so don’t be surprised if they do it at home too!  (ARGGGGGG!)

We will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on Friday with a few Irish treats that I am going to bring in.  If your firstie wants to bring in something to share with the rest of the class, that would be great!  They can also wear green and/or Irish gear.

Below are a few more pictures from last week's Lutheran School's week...
We represented Ireland, well!

Josh helped design and make our torch!

Blessings on your evening!

Dear Parents,
Oh happy day…it’s snowing again! Please make sure that your firstie is dressed appropriately for the weather AND/OR they have all their snow gear ready to go, in case we go outside.  Also, please double check with your kiddo to make sure that they have an extra set of clothes in their locker.  Thanks!

Did you catch it?  My mistake on the calendar?  I know that that I wrote (on BOTH calendars….what was I thinking?) that our half day of school is going to be on the 16th.  Scratch that.  It is going to be the on the following Friday, the 23rd.  Please mark that down and forgive me for my mistake.

Lutheran Schools Week has been fun so far!  Below are a few pictures from our “Twin Day”.

Tomorrow we will be participating in some fun Olympic activities in the afternoon, and each class will be wearing colors that represent their chosen country’s flag (We are Ireland! Please have your firstie wear the colors orange, green, or white OR they can wear St. Patrick’s Day attire (as long as it is appropriate!))

We are just trucking along in Math!  Today, we practiced using mental math to solve our addition problems…adding by 10s. This is a hard concept for some to grasp at first.  Don’t let your firstie get discouraged if they aren’t getting it right away! If your firstie needs to use their Hundred Chart, that is okay too!

How is the reading at home going?  Keep up the good work in helping your firstie become more and more fluent. I am seeing ALL the firsties become more confident and volunteer to read out loud…..it’s GOOD STUFF!

Blessings on your evening!

Dear Parents,
Happy Friday! Just wanted to share some pictures from this past week with you.

We had our first “secret reader” come on Thursday to share a book with us!  It was so fun! Mya’s mom read us a book that dealt with being yourself, sticking up for your friends, and doing the right thing!

There is still room for more secret readers....just let me know if you can come in and read to us.

Today, we read by flashlight…and it was good!  We will do it again next Friday, so make sure to send in the flashlight again next week.

Next week is Lutheran Schools week!  The list of what is going on each day is on the last blog post and also was in the newsletter that Mrs. Jore sent out yesterday.

The firsties made paper necklaces in Art Class.  They turned out pretty neat!

We will be having a Science Test on Monday. Please review over the weekend.

Have a great weekend!
Hope to see you at the Wild Game Dinner!
