Dear Parents,
Did you know…..March is National Reading Month? We are celebrating a couple different ways! One way is the secret readers that have been
invited to read to the firsties.
Our first secret reader....Mrs. Mazure! |
Another
way is our door has been decorated to look like one of our favorite books (“Press
Here” by Herve Tullet). The other
classrooms have participated too! If you
get a chance, make sure to check them out!
On Fridays, for the rest of the month we will have a short time when we
will read by flashlight (Flashlight Fridays!).
Please make sure your firstie has a flashlight for Friday so that they
can participate (The flashlight can be small!).
We have a representative from the Auburn library coming to read to
grades PS-4th grade in a few weeks as well. And finally, we will be having some Drop
Everything And Read time (D.E.A.R.) during the week before Spring Break. I LOVE it!
Did your firstie tell you about their surprise that they got
in the mail today?!? At the LEA
convention last fall, I ran into a friend of mine from college who also teaches
1st grade. She messaged me a
few months ago and asked if our classes could be Pen Pals…..to which, I said, “Of
Course!”. We got their letters today and will be writing them back later this
week.
We are also going to be sending
their class information about Bay City (they live in Fort Wayne), so if you
have any postcards or maps, or anything like that, please send any items in!
Long a spelled either with ai or ay this week for
spelling! Ask your firstie about the
little trick I gave them to remember which long a spelling to use!
Blessings on the beginning of this “normal” week!
Miss Gallagher
