Dear Parents,
Hello and Happy Tuesday! Today started with firsties paired
up (and one group of three) to work on a fill in the blank spelling
worksheet. It was interesting to listen
to and observe how they all work together within their different pairings. Many times, when I pair them up, it is random
(I like to keep them on their toes!) and I pull their numbers from a mug. This way they are given the opportunity to
work with others in the class that they may not gravitate to right away.
During our morning prayer time, the firsties are
starting to have actual requests! We
have talked about how it is important in our relationship with God, to ask
Him things. Yes, it is wonderful to
thank Him for ALL of our blessings, but it is okay to ask God too. When you come for Parent Teacher Conferences
in a few weeks, you can check how what your firstie has been asking to pray
for.
Last year at our teacher’s conference, everyone received a
paper Martin Luther, who I dubbed “Flat Luther”. He made the rounds with our firstie class
year and now will be making the rounds with THIS class. If you have ever heard of the children’s
book, Flat Stanley, it is about a boy who gets flattened (by a bulletin board
that his parents put above his bed) and then goes on various adventures. “Flat Luther”
in the Lutheran version of this! Each firstie will get
one week with Flat Luther.
Please take
pictures of the adventures that he has with your kiddo (This can be anything
from raking leaves, to decorating for Christmas, to going to the Dollar Store,
to going to Florida.). You don’t have to
travel anywhere with him, but if you DO travel, please take him with you so
that he can be a part of your adventure.
Please have your firstie write about what he does and then glue your
pictures to the blank paper in the binder.
You can check out what last year's students did if you have any
questions….the binder will be on our room until I send him out. I will let you know when he embarks on his
next adventure….stay tuned!
Have the firsties shared GONOODLE with you? Have you downloaded it at home? They certainly love getting wiggles out during the
day! Below are a few
pictures of our poses during a brain break!
Have you noticed their “verb” pictures above their
lockers? Each firstie had to use pipe
cleaners to form a person doing an action. Most chose walking or running. Below are a few
examples!
Did you see the note that Mrs. Hurley sent? For the first time since participating in our
mission “Aaron’s Gifts From Home”, a soldier wrote us a thank you note
back! It was so heartwarming to hear
this and to know that in a small way, we are making a difference!
TOMORROW (Wednesday, October 11th), Mrs. Hurley
has requested that we ALL wear red, white, and blue so that we can take a picture
to send back to him.
It is Library day tomorrow!
Please help your firstie remember to bring their books back. No one signed up for an AR test
this week. When they get new books
tomorrow (one AR book and one “fun” book), please have your kiddo read their AR
book several times so that they can try to take a test. The goal is to have everyone take a test
before the end of the 1st quarter.
I know that many of you are gardeners, but there are some
FREE tomatoes on the desk, outside of our classroom! I grew them and there is only SO much
homemade spaghetti sauce I can make….my freezer is FULL! Please come and take
them off my hands…..thank you!
I am sorry that this was such a long post! Thanks for reading and see you in the morning!
Blessings,
Miss Gallagher
