Dear Parents,
What a beautiful day for a field trip! It was a wonderful and educational experience! Check out the pictures below!
We watched a puppet show all about maple leaves and trees... |
Very informative! |
Then we went for a walk in the woods to look for maple trees to "tap"... |
Maple trees! |
Do you see the buckets? |
Did you know that maple trees have "belly buttons"?!? Ask your firstie about that... |
We had to carry our own tools and supplies... |
Measuring the tree... |
Everyone got a turn to drill into the tree... |
And "tap" it.... |
Then we got to stick our fingers right under the "spout" and taste the sap straight from the tree...YUM?! Ask your firstie what it tasted like.... |
The Sugar House |
Once the sap has been collected, it then has to be boiled to get all of the water out of it, so only the sugar remains. |
Did you know this?!? |
Assume the "tasting position"! |
Finally got to try some....YUM!!! |
Reading Month continues....
Every year I like to decorate our classroom door like a book cover to celebrate Reading Month and this year (like a non-smart person) I let the firsties choose what book cover they wanted to recreate...this is what they chose.....looks easy right?!?!
NOT.
And this is how it turned out....Not perfectly exact, but close! And I think that I learned my lesson....I will not be having the kiddos pick the book cover! OR I will give them much- easier- to-recreate- cover- choices....ha.
Don't forget to continue to keep track of minutes read on the Reading Log for the week!
We want to meet the "goal" so that Mrs. Klauer will have to wear some very FUN costumes! :)
Take Home Story bags are due tomorrow.
Dismissal tomorrow is 11:30. Have a great night!
Miss Gallagher
