Dear Parents,
In Religion we have been learning about some of the different miracles that Jesus performed; Jesus healing people, Jesus stopping the storm (when He was with His disciples), Jesus feeding more than 5,000 people with just a few pieces of food (And there was food LEFTOVER!), Jesus bringing the guard’s daughter back to life…..just to name a few.  In learning about all of these different miracles, we have learned how powerful Jesus really is and that He really IS God.  We talked last week about how Jesus said that He is the bread life.  Did your firstie bring home this message on little white circles?  Ask what the little white circles represented and also ask what Jesus meant when He said that.

In Math we have been working hard on subtracting.  Firsties are encouraged to use their hundred charts to help with subtracting by 10’s, but if it can be done mentally, that is encouraged too! Again, practice with your kiddo.  The more practice they get, the easier it will become.

We had some more secret readers last week!  Thank you to all that were able to come and read to us!  We enjoyed the time that you were able to give us, so much!
Mrs. Smith

One of my friends (and a teacher as well), Mrs. KIm Bublitz came and read two books to the firsties!

Mrs. Sendtko

The Social Studies Fair went very well!  Thank you for helping and working with your firstie so that they could complete the majority of their project by themselves!  I don’t know about them, but I learned a little more about each of the first graders and a lot about the people that they chose to do a time on.  If you were not able to attend the Fair, below are a few pictures of the time lines, all set up and ready to be viewed.

And I also took a few candid pictures on Friday night...

Have a great week as we continue to travel through this Lenten season.
Blessings!

Dear Parents,
Happy Friday! I am so thankful that our class is on the mend and that we are feeling better (though I heard that some of you are now not feeling well…..we are praying for you!).
We continue to celebrate Reading Month!  Here are a few more of the readers that have come into our classroom and read to us this week!
Mrs. Giffel

Mr. Fitzgerald

Mrs. LaFramboise

Mrs. Kundinger

We also did our “Flashlight Friday” today!  If your firstie forgot about it for today…..do not fear!  We will be doing it again next Friday! And the following Friday after that! Two more opportunities to participate!

How are the time lines going for the Social Studies Fair?  Only one more week to go!  They can brought in BEFORE Friday if you would like and I can just store them in our classroom.  I would like each of the first graders to present their time lines to the class, so if you get done before Friday please send them in. That way we won’t have to have ALL the first graders present on Friday (which would save on our time for that day!).

Yesterday we worked on our Pen Pal letters!  We wrote a first draft and will write our final drafts next week and then they will be ready to send back.  If anyone has access to any information about Bay City (i.e. maps, postcards, etc…) and would be willing to part with them, please let me know.  I would like to include information about where we live in the big envelope that gets sent to Fort Wayne.  Thank you!

Please continue to quiz your firstie with math facts!  Quiz them on the way to school or on the way home.  At the table for breakfast or dinner are also good times!  It only needs to be a few minutes at a time, but I think that it really does help to review.  We added two digit number today (which most thought was easy so far) without regrouping, and they did okay!

To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, next Friday, if your firstie would like to bring in something green to share with everyone, that we be fantastic!  It is NOT required….but would add to the day, for sure! Some examples of things brought in in the past are: green apples, green fruit roll-ups, green pencils, green cookies, green stickers, green erasers, etc… Your firstie can also wear green (and if they don’t have anything at all green, I have something that I will be giving to everyone that they can wear, so there doesn’t need to be any panicking!).

Don’t forget that for our memory test next week, each firstie will need to show me that they can tie their shoes properly.  Keep practicing!

Have a wonderful weekend!
 Blessings,
Miss Gallagher

Dear Parents,
Did you know…..March is National Reading Month?  We are celebrating a couple different ways!  One way is the secret readers that have been invited to read to the firsties.
Our first secret reader....Mrs. Mazure!
Another way is our door has been decorated to look like one of our favorite books (“Press Here” by Herve Tullet).  The other classrooms have participated too!  If you get a chance, make sure to check them out!  On Fridays, for the rest of the month we will have a short time when we will read by flashlight (Flashlight Fridays!).  Please make sure your firstie has a flashlight for Friday so that they can participate (The flashlight can be small!).  We have a representative from the Auburn library coming to read to grades PS-4th grade in a few weeks as well.  And finally, we will be having some Drop Everything And Read time (D.E.A.R.) during the week before Spring Break.  I LOVE it!
Did your firstie tell you about their surprise that they got in the mail today?!?  At the LEA convention last fall, I ran into a friend of mine from college who also teaches 1st grade.  She messaged me a few months ago and asked if our classes could be Pen Pals…..to which, I said, “Of Course!”. We got their letters today and will be writing them back later this week.

We are also going to be sending their class information about Bay City (they live in Fort Wayne), so if you have any postcards or maps, or anything like that, please send any items in!
Long a spelled either with ai or ay this week for spelling!  Ask your firstie about the little trick I gave them to remember which long a spelling to use!
Blessings on the beginning of this “normal” week!
