Dear Parents,
Happy Wednesday!  How are you?  We are well into the season of Lent now. Did you give anything up for Lent? Or maybe instead of giving something up, you are adding something to your days?  I pray that you are able to spend some quiet reflection time during this Lenten season. In Chapel today, Mrs. Hurley played one of my favorite Lenten hymns and I wanted to share it with you! The words are below.  Please read them…they are so, so good.
My song is love unknown, My Savior’s love to me,
Love to the loveless shown That they might lovely be.
Oh, who am I That for my sake My Lord should take frail flesh and die?

He came from His blest throne Salvation to bestow,
But men made strange And none the longed-for Christ would know.
But, oh, my friend, My friend indeed, Who at my need His life did spend!

Sometimes they strew His way And His sweet praises sing
Resounding all the day Hosannas to their King
Then “Crucify!” Is all their breath,
And for His death They thirst and cry.

They rise and needs will have My dear Lord made away;
A murderer they save, The Prince of life they slay.
Yet cheerful He To suffering goes
That He His foes From Thence might free.

Here might I stay and sing, No story so divine!
Never was love, dear King, Never was grief like Thine.
This is my friend, In whose sweet praise
I all my days Could gladly spend!

In Religion class yesterday, we learned about a very important verse in the Bible, John 3:16.  “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him, shall never perish, but have eternal life.”  Isn’t that our salvation in a nutshell?  God send His Son because He is crazy about us!  He loves us SO MUCH!  I pray that you are able to remember this simple fact not only during Lent, but always!

Thank you for getting your firstie to school so that they have time to visit with their friends and complete their morning routine.  When they are on time, it helps to start our day in a positive and successful way!

Over the last few weeks, I have been noticing more and more kiddos not getting their homework completed at night.  I understand that our routine has been a little off because of snow days and breaks and everything, but at this point of the school year, this isn’t something we should be struggling with.  Please help me in making sure that your firstie gets their work done and returns it to school the next day. Thank you!

To help strengthen our writing, we have started using our little green dictionaries (Words I Use When I Write). Did your firstie tell you about this?  They seem to be actually enjoying looking up words and working on things themselves (It’s impowering!)  Their reading has improved in leaps and bounds throughout the year, now we have to work on our writing skills!

Next week is when we are celebrating National Lutheran Schools Week! We celebrate with doing fun things throughout the week.  Below are the activities for each day!  I am looking forward to having fun and celebrating our Lutheran school and Lutheran education!

Monday- Dress Like Your Favorite Movie Character Day (please be appropriate and absolutely no weapons) and we will watch a movie in the afternoon (students will get to choose what movie they’d like to watch)
Tuesday- Twin/Triplet Day (Students can dress alike with one or two people in our school)
Wednesday- Olympic Day (Each class will dress to represent a country and in the afternoon we will have all-school “Olympic” activities) (1st grade will be representing Ireland!  Firsties can wear St. Patrick’s Day stuff or clothes that are green, orange, or white)
Thursday-Tacky Day (Students may wear clothes that don’t match)
Friday- PJ and Pancakes Day (This one is pretty straight forward…..!)

Don’t forget to send in a flashlight for our first Flashlight Friday (this Friday!)!
Blessings!

Dear Parents,
Happy Valentine’s Day!  Yes, I know that I am few days late, but the firsties hopefully enjoyed celebrating today!  Below are a few of the boxes that they created!  I must say, that I was SO impressed with their creativity!  I will be announcing the winner when we get back from our short Mid-Winter Break.

Bowling was fun today! Thanks to all of the parents that were able to come, and/or drive!  Thanks also, to the parents that brought the yummy treats!

Thank you for all of the wonderful Valentine’s Day presents and surprises! How lucky and blessed am I that I didn’t have 1 valentine.... I had 13!  (Side note, those boys sure do know the way to a girl’s heart with flowers….hahaha!!!)
So beautiful and sweet!
"Foxy socks"!

Isn't it pretty?!?

One change for next week….and please note this…..I reversed the spelling words on our February calendar!  If you are planning on getting a jump start over the weekend on the spelling words, please study the words that are for the LAST week of February.  Those words are: (long o) show, row, low, grow, blow, snow, boat, coat, road, toad, talk, great.

Have a wonderful weekend and I will see you on Tuesday!
Blessings!

Dear Parents,
Happy 100th day of school!  We have all made through 100 days of school already!  I can’t believe that the year is already half way over…It’s crazy! We had a fun day today!  I am sure that your firstie has shared a lot of what we did already, but I wanted to share pictures with you. Enjoy!
I hid 100 Hershey's hugs and kisses all around the room...do you see a few of them?

Once the candy was found, each firstie had to place their kiss or hug on the Hundred Chart.

There were numbers on the bottom of each piece of candy.

They did SO WELL!

We found them all!  (Eventually....)

Smarties were enjoyed....yum!

Each firsie brought in 100 of one item....chocolate chips?

Or army men?

They worked in groups to create a 100 cup tower.

So proud!

Everyone worked well together!

"Miss Gallagher, our tower is taller than us!"

Kali dressed like she was 100 years old today!

Each kiddo used the numbers 100 to create a picture...glasses

A beach scene...

Finally, they had to follow the specific directions to create a 100 MONSTER.
What a fun day!
Ask your firstie who we read about in story time today. Ask them to tell you who Ruby Bridges is, what she did, and how she was able to do it.

Spelling and memory tests tomorrow!
Blessings on your night and weekend! Don't forget to watch the opening ceremonies of the Olympics tomorrow night.
